EDGH, Cardiac Catheter Refurbishment

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust

Description: Complete strip out and reforming of the Cardiology ward and adjacent area to form new Cardiology suite as first phase of an ongoing major capital refurbishment programme with internal demolitions and building works, full localised Mechanical and Electrical services replacement, built in furniture and fitments to HTM standards.  New partitions, ceilings, decorations, flooring, specialist doors and fire compartmentation. Construction of a new roof mounted galvanised steel plant deck and craning on new air handling equipment, plus other enclosures. All next to an operational area where vibrations and noise were a concern – so close liaison between site management and adjacent users was paramount – and we arranged to undertake a sample of different fixing methods with the user, and agreed on the methodology with them to reduce any impact on their clinical service provision.

Weekend works undertaken to floor below for plumbing and drainage connections in an area where immune suppressed patients needed to be relocated and deep clean undertaken following programmed works. Works undertaken whilst another contractor was undertaking major package of external cladding and roofing works so programme of works, access routes, cranage lift dates etc.. had to be closely co-ordinated.

Shutdowns of main hospital access roads for craneage, plus co-ordinating so not to impact the acute site where other major works were being undertaken at the same time.

Mechanical and electrical subcontractors formed a significant part of the works, and were closely engaged with the redesign process, ensuring that builders works elements, especially to the plant deck, were understood, and therefore incorporated into the deck design, and therefore reducing the amount of disruption due to craneage lifts required.
