Bexhill Clinical Diagnostic Centre
Following the Covid 19 Pandemic, the Government was seeking a number of Clinical Diagnostic Centres that were separate to the main acute hospital sites.
We were engaged to undertake the complete strip out of an industrial unit which had been an existing car repair workshop on an industrial estate in Bexhill to provide a Clinical Diagnostic Centre.
A Partnership approach between the client, designers and ourselves to incorporate buildability into the design, and utilising a Partnering culture within this Rapid Response contract.

We were engaged at preliminary design stage before the building had been leased, and were able to discuss and guide the design team on buildability.
Works comprised the strip out of the existing internals, and construction of a timber framed “building within a building” to meet high insulation levels, and enable the building to be run on renewables only.
Internally, forming new partitions, ceilings, decorations, flooring, specialist doors, formation of plant room, erect new draught lobby and fire compartmentation. Full Mechanical and Electrical installation, external plant bases for major plant, external repairs, install new underground drainage and service ducts, car park resurfacing.
Working with the M&E designers, we agreed routes and support systems that would allow for faster and better co-ordinated installations, and better accessibility for maintenance in the future. It also permitted some elements to commence installation before M&E design fully completed.
Co-ordination with the 3rd party suppliers of bed mounted and standing X ray equipment, along with the lead lined protection to these environments.
Weekly site meetings were held to ensure design changes were understood as the design evolved, with formal site meetings every fortnight as the ideal timescale for such an evolving project.
