Our Commitment to the Environment
At Booker & Best Ltd. We recognise the urgent need to address climate change and environmental impact across our operations. That’s why we are committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2045 across Scopes 1, 2 and material Scope 3 emissions. This commitment was approved by our Board of Directors on 22 March 2024 and forms a central part of our company-wide Environmental Strategy.
Our Net Zero Roadmap
To reach Net Zero by 2045, we are focusing on reducing emissions at the source and continuously improving the way we operate. Our key actions include:
Fleet Modernisation
Upgrading our company vehicles as more efficient and cost effective solutions come to market, focusing on electric and hybrid models, prioritising low-emission alternatives where fully electric is not et viable for the needs of a contract
Smarter Travel Planning
Optimising route planning to reduce mileage and fuel use, and encouraging video conferencing to minimise unnecessary travel.
Green Office Energy
Transitioning our office facilities to renewable energy suppliers, and improving energy efficiency through smart heating, lighting and insulation upgrades. Reviewing available grants and low interest loans to provide funding for energy generation and storage
Digitalisation & Waste Reduction
Minimising paper and single-use materials by adopting digital tools across our business functions, from site records to procurement systems.
Sustainable Procurement
Working with suppliers who share our environmental values, and sourcing materials responsibly to reduce embodied carbon in our supply chain. Reduce excess ordering, and ensuring that we have the ability to return unused stock.
Carbon Monitoring and Reporting
We are building a robust internal framework to monitor, measure and report our carbon output, using trusted tools and methodologies aligned with UK government and industry standards.
- Our emissions data will be published annually on this page, including progress against our Net Zero targets.
- We are working with sustainablility consultants to verify our data and set science-based interim targets.
On-Site Sustainability
Environmental responsibility is embedded in how we deliver every project. For each contract, we aim to reduce site-based emissions through:
- Using local labour and suppliers to reduce travel emissions
- Specifying electric or low-emission plant and tools where practical
- Reusing, recycling and correctly segregating waste
- Avoiding over-ordering and managing materials efficiently
Partnering for a Greener Future
We believe reducing carbon is not a standalone effort, it requires collaboration with clients, suppliers and the wider community. We are committed to aligning our practices with national goals (Including the UK’s 2050 Net Zero target) and staying updated with sector-wide innovations and best practices.
Track our Progress
We will share the following updates here annually:
- Our total carbon emissions (Scopes 1,2 and material Scope 3)
- Progress against our Net Zero pathway
- Key initiatives completed each year
- Future actions and interim reductions targets
